    For Immediate Release

(Redwood City, CA)  - San Mateo County Supervisor Warren Slocum has been appointed to the Association of Bay Area Government’s (ABAG) new Strategy Committee.  The work of this Committee will guide the development of a regional Economic Development District (EDD) for the nine-county Bay Area and support regional economic prosperity.

A regional Economic Development District, a formal designation from the federal Economic Development Agency, will provide increased access to grants and technical assistance that support economic and workforce development in the region.  It will also support the regional plan for greater economic growth and shared prosperity envisioned by Plan Bay Area.

“I am honored to be a part of the Strategy Committee – to plan for a dynamic and prosperous future for our region,” stated Supervisor Slocum.  “There is much heavy lifting to be done to accomplish plans for housing our workforce, the repair and enhancement of our infrastructure and transportation needs, and to grow businesses within San Mateo County and the other Bay Area counties.”

Other San Mateo County members of this Committee include Chair Pradeep Gupta, Vice Mayor of South San Francisco and Rosanne Foust, President and CEO of the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) and former Mayor of Redwood City.
