On October 15th, 40 families attended the first of five session of the Well-Being Academy. This is the first time this 5-week program was offered in North Fair Oaks. This 5-week program discussed mental health topics on stigma, immigration, teen suicide, and wellness.

Last fall, our office hosted a community conversation on Mental Health - after this conversation, the community requested a followed up and we listened.

Together, in partnership between District 4, CARON through the Sheriff’s Office, and Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) we developed the Well-Being Academy. The goal of this academy was to connect the community to local resources that could be of use to them or anyone who may be experiencing mental health challenges.

On November 12th, we celebrated the success of 40 participants in completing five sessions on Mental Health. Congratulations to all North Fair Oaks community residents who graduated from the first Well-Being Academy!

Not only was this workshop a great educational opportunity, it also helped bring together the community to talk about shared issues and experiences that are often unexpressed.

Thank you to the Sheriff's Office and San Mateo County Health and especially - Sergeant Victor Lopez, Jose Luis Aguirre, Florence Ortiz from CARON and Claudia Saggese and Yolanda Ramirez from BHRS as well as all the volunteers for helping to make this workshop possible.
