  • Veterans Commission meeting

As a Vietnam veteran I know how important it is to support our veterans and that is exactly what the San Mateo County Veterans Commission is doing.

There are more than 30,000 veterans in San Mateo County and the Veterans Commission has accomplished a great deal since it was formed. Hank Sherf gave an annual report to the Board of Supervisors on their accomplishments that included hosting the Annual Veteran of the Year Luncheon, assisted Eagle Scout backpack project, participated in the County’s Women’s Veterans Summit and continue to support veterans with housing and mental health services.

In their current strategic plan, their goals include – identify the current needs of San Mateo County veterans, develop a current catalog of all county services to veterans, outreach on services and advocate on policies. I have no doubt the commission will succeed in their goals.

There are in the works of coordinating the fourth Annual Veteran of the Year luncheon – an event that honors San Mateo County veterans. This event has a lot of popularity that this year it will be held at a bigger venue in order to have more veterans attend. This event brings great joy as veterans get to enjoy a nice lunch, listen to speakers and receive appreciation awards for San Mateo County. The Veteran of the Year Luncheon will be held on Thursday, November 7th at San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront in Burlingame. The Veterans Commission hard work is appreciated and recognized by San Mateo County a place where veterans can thrive. We look forward to continuing supporting our veterans.
