While that’s better than just a few years ago, with more jobs than homes, rents have skyrocketed, and affordable homes are harder to find. We’ve seen rents go up over 39 percent for two-bedroom homes between 2011 and 2017. And more than 50 percent of our current renters — our families, friends, teachers, nurses — are paying unaffordable and unsustainable rents. San Mateo County is full of innovators and problem solvers – but we need to think regionally on this issue of housing and health.
