It was a pleasure to join the MidPeninsula Regional Open Space District for their annual Legislative Picnic on the patio of the recently opened Cooley Landing Facility at the Ravenswood Open Space Preserve in East Palo Alto. It's such a beautiful place!
There was much to celebrate--the opening of the Cooley Landing Center this year, this thriving and beautiful bayside preserve, and the recent passage of the Measure AA parcel tax to fund the restoration of bay lands (kudos to my colleague Supervisor Dave Pine for his leadership on this). Special guest, Jose Gonzalez, of LatinoOutdoors.org spoke eloquently about his vision to connect kids of color to nature and the great outdoors. The San Mateo County Parks program will launch the Explorer Program around Labor Day with its shared vision and ability to provide a free ride on the weekends to Edgewood and Wunderlich Parks!
Thanks to all for the work undertaken by the network of regional open space and park advocates. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the great lunch prepared by the County's VRS group (Vocational Rehabilitation Services) and the music provided by Mike Annuzzi, a great local guitarist.
