  • On January 5th, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors unanimously elected Supervisor Slocum to be the President of the Board. He noted how honored he was by their confidence in him and was pleased that Supervisor Don Horsley was elected Vice President of the Board. He thanked outgoing President, Supervisor Carole Groom for her leadership over the past year noting her compassion for the residents, enthusiasm for the County and steady, guiding hand through complex issues.

In addition to board's reorganization, the meeting included a cultural program. Special thanks to: San Mateo County Poet Laureate Caroline Goodwin's who read her original poem entitled "Watershed", the dancers of Ballet Folklorico del Circulo Cultura, the amazing hour of great music by H2O, East Palo Alto's own hip hop orchestra, (thanks to Justin Phipps Liveinpeacenow ) and a concluding performance by East Palo Alto vocalist Freddy Flopez who sang "Home." Marisa Gittens of Rendevous Catering atJobTrain provided the delicious food. It was memorable.

Supervisor Slocum's inaugural remarks are attached if you wish to read them.
