  • We celebrated the 2nd Annual “Park(ing) Day” in North Fair Oaks!  “Park(ing) Day” is a one-day event where parking spaces are transformed into temporary community places. It is celebrated by cities all over the world on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015.

"PARK(ing) Day" is a way to promote green spaces, healthy lifestyles, and build community in urban areas! Three different spaces along Middlefield Road will take be transformed! The spaces in front of Landscape Systems, the spaces in front of Connoisseur Coffee, and one other between Third and Fourth.

This year Mary Martinez, a member of the North Fair Oaks Community Council and the Fair Oaks Community School Coordinator brought a group of students on an afterschool field trip to visit the parklets. Tim Vine of Landscape Systems made a short presentation to the students and gave them seeds, soil and pots! Supervisor Don Horsley and I made a point of stopping by all three, very different parklets!  It was a creative way to build community. Thank you to the North Fair Oaks Forward Team (Ashley, Ellie and Jenifer) for putting this together and to the sponsors: Connoisseur Coffee, San Mateo Credit Union, ManCrates, Chavez Market, Landscape Systems, and several San Mateo County departments. It was great!
