On April 7th and April 29th, I hosted Tenant & Landlord Informational Forums in North Fair Oaks. The purpose was to provide reliable information on the rights, roles, responsiblities for tenants and landlords and introduce the resources and organizations that offer assistance.
The challenges and concerns voiced by those in attendance ranged from multiple rent increases in a year, double-digit rent increases, fears of eviction, limits on children playing in common areas, the condition of some units to the insecurity felt by renters who are struggling to cover the cost of increasing rent in their household budget.
Special thanks to the California Apartment Association, Project Sentinel, the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and Community Legal Services of East Palo Alto, who provided the expertise on the panels and resource information. And thanks to the Siena Youth Center and the Fair Oaks Community School who graciously hosted the forums.
