Energy-saving LED streetlights were recently installed in North Fair Oaks as part of the first phase of the PG&E Turnkey program in the Menlo Park Highway Lighting District. PG&E and the County’s Department of Public Works replaced the sodium vapor fixtures with more efficient LED streetlight fixtures that:
Ø Last 3 to 5 times longer
Ø Require less maintenance
Ø Decrease energy usage and CO2 emissions by 70%
Ø Provide better light clarity
Ø Yield an annual energy cost savings of $17,693 (estimated)
In December, a second streetlight construction project in North Fair Oaks is set to begin. It will be within the area of Bay Road, Spring Street, Charter Street, and 2nd Avenue. Unfortunately, the underground system providing power to the existing streetlights in this area has deteriorated to the point that the entire underground system must be replaced. The streetlights in this area are connected by a series loop, which means that when one light goes out, all of the lights on the circuit go out. The construction work is estimated to take 90 working days, weather permitting. This project will also replace the existing fixtures with LED fixtures.
